Responsive websites respond to their environment. The text and images rearrange, resize and stack depending on what size browser you are viewing the website on — a smartphone, a pad, a standard computer monitor — each of these present the content of the website in a different way.

A responsive website is built with alternate CSS styling so that it detects the screen size your visitors are using and displays the content in a layout that is easiest for them to read.

The benefit of Responsive Design is that it provides an optimal viewing experience for your visitors — easy reading and navigation with a minimum of resizing & panning.

If your site does not have responsive design, your website will still function correctly when viewed on a phone or pad device, but it appears as a tiny, scaled down version of your site. Visitors will have to use pinching and swiping to enlarge the content and navigate through.

Not sure if your website is responsive? Use Google’s “Mobile Friendly Test” to find out!
