Plugin Recommendation: Smush Image Optimization

I’ve written a lot of articles over the years about the importance of sizing & compressing images to help your website run faster and more efficiently. I know many of the Photoshop sizing tips I’ve given can be a bit overwhelming if you aren’t a Photoshop user, so I was thrilled to recently learn about a plugin that can take care of optimizing/sizing images as they are being uploaded and can optimize/resize images that have already been added to the site.

The Plugin is called Smush Image Compression and Optimization
and well over 1 million websites are using it to speed up their sites.

In their own words: “Smush meticulously scans every image you upload – or have already added to your site – cuts all the unnecessary data and scales it for you before adding it to your media library.”

That means you no longer have to manually cut down & compress your images before adding them to your website.

The free version of Smush only allows you to optimize up to 50 images at a time. This means once the first 50 images are “smushed”, you’ll need to hit the button again, and again depending on how many images need to be optimized. The paid Pro version requires a monthly fee, and for most sites the free version is all you need.

With your Admin level login, you can add this plugin to your WordPress Dashboard, set it up, and run the compressions. If you would like help getting Smush installed, setup, and run on your website, contact me!
