Making Custom WordPress Website Design
More Affordable for Small Businesses

Selecting Laura as our website developer was one of our best investments. Laura was able to quickly and expertly transform our goals and ideas into an effective and dynamic new website. She was easy to work with, provided valuable suggestions throughout the process, had patience with our many changes and responded quickly to questions. Laura's graphic design background was valuable during our site's development. I highly recommend Laura Bowly Design for website creation.

Web Fonts vs Web “Safe” Fonts

Search Engines rely on ‘reading’ the text content of your site in order to rank the relevance of your pages against searched for phrases. Your Header tags are a particularly important piece of that and the styling of those tags also play a large role in the look of your site.

custom-fontsThere has always existed a small group of fonts that are considered “safe” for web use, meaning, all visitors will see those fonts exactly the same. Because the display of fonts on the web largely depends on the viewer’s font collection, it has been the best practice to use fonts which are already installed on a large percentage of viewer’s computers, limiting the “safe” choices considerably.

In the past, if you wanted unique styling of your Headers or other text within your site, you created images that replaced words for bolder impact. Of course the problem with this is that Search Engines do not ‘read’ images as text, so you have the look, but not the function. Also, changing the text requires creating a new image.

Web Fonts are generally a subscription-based (or open-source) library of hosted, high-quality fonts that can be used in any website. Instead of relying on the fonts installed on the viewer’s computers, these fonts are hosted on independent servers, so they literally load when someone visits the site.

Custom Web Fonts allow us to design a truly unique website that better ties into your business identity.

For a minimal cost addition, I can design your site using Custom Web Fonts. I hope you’ll contact us today to get a free estimate on your website project!

“As the president of two non-profit organizations and a local business owner, I’ve had the pleasure of working with Laura Bowly regularly over the past few years. I have been extraordinarily pleased with Laura's services in terms of creativity, functionality and responsiveness and just can’t say enough good things about her. To top it off , both organizations regularly receive compliments on our websites from visitors. I can’t wait to get her started on a website for my own business and wouldn't dream of considering anyone else.”
