New Google Mobile Search Rules Create an Opportunity for Responsive Designed Websites

There’s lots of buzz about the changes that Google is making to refine search results for mobile users. I wanted to take a moment to let you know what they mean for you and for your website.

As web browsing on mobile devices has increased, Google has deemed it necessary to give responsive designed sites priority ranking for searches done on a mobile device.

What does “responsive design” mean?

bulliesResponsive websites respond to their environment. The text and images rearrange, resize and stack depending on what size browser you are viewing the website on — a smartphone, a pad, a standard computer monitor. A responsive website is built with alternate CSS styling so that it detects the screen size your visitors are using and displays the content in a layout that is easiest for them to read. You can read more about responsive design here.

If you’re not sure if your site is responsive, Google has a handy-dandy Mobile-Friendly Test site so you can find out.

What does Google’s new mobile search rules mean for you?

At this point, you’re probably wondering how are these new mobile search rules going to effect you. Well, as The Guardian put it, “This means companies without a good mobile website will suffer, as searchers on mobile will see sites with good mobile experiences ranked higher than those with no mobile or poor mobile sites.”

An opportunity?

We had been wanting to update our website for about a year, but had been struggling to find a web designer who was efficient, responsive, and creative. And then we found Laura Bowly. She has truly been the answer to our prayers! From our very first consultation we knew that Laura was going to surpass our expectations, and she provided us with a site that was better than we could have imagined. She was immediately able to grasp our vision and created a site that was beautiful, user-friendly, and responsive..in no time at all! We could not have asked for a better web designer, and we have already recommended her to many of our colleagues. We look forward to working with her on more sites and projects in the future.
